Hotspot and tethering
Hotspot and tethering let a child share their phone’s mobile data with another device, such as a games console or laptop. There are various ways this works on a device:
| Type | Description | Allowed by Voop? | Protected by Voop? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi hotspot | Other devices connect to the phone over Wi-Fi. The phone shares its mobile data. | ❌ | N/A |
| Bluetooth tethering | Other devices connect to the phone over Bluetooth. The phone shares its mobile data | ❌ | N/A |
| USB tethering (Mobile data) | Other devices connect to the phone with a cable. the phone shares its mobile data. | ✅ | ✅ |
| USB tethering (Wifi) | Other devices connect to the phone with a cable. The phone shares its Wifi connection. | ✅ | ❌ (Coming soon) |
Note: If Bluetooth is blocked in Device features, Bluetooth tethering won’t work either, even if hotspot is turned on.
If your organisation needs hotspot turned on for a child, contact Voop support.
Any data used through a hotspot counts towards the child’s monthly data allowance.
